Joze Pogacnik [Slovene: Jože Pogačnik] (27 July 1916 – 21 July 2022) was a Slovenian centenarian who was the oldest known living man in Slovenia at the time of his death.
Biography[]
Pogacnik was born in Srednja Dobrava, Kropa municipality, Austria-Hungary (present-day Slovenia) on 27 July 1916.
He received the award of honorary citizen in 2003 for his contribution to the development of the municipality of Domzale. He performed his life's work mainly as the director of Tosam, and twice he successfully performed the function of the president of the Municipal Assembly of Domzale.
His influence on the development of TOSAME and its modernization is very important, and his professionalism has marked both economic and wider social development. In designing the first program for building a network of new primary schools and introducing I. self-contribution and water supply program with the guideline "healthy drinking water for all", Mr. Pogačnik decisive role. His contribution to the preservation of railway traffic on the Kamnik - Domžale - Ljubljana line is also very important. .in the period of his management of the municipality, local communities were introduced as new important forms of local self-government.
He was also a member of the Economic Assembly of the Republic Assembly and co-signatory of the famous political campaign "25 deputies" on his candidacy for president of the SFRY from Slovenia, led by MPs Cene Maticic and Ivan Kreft. for an attempt at an earlier question of democratic forms of political life he experienced political criticism with bitterness and disappointment. Mr. Pogačnik was always modest and simple, so he enjoyed a great reputation among the workers as a man with a pronounced social feeling and understanding for a small man. Courage and humanity are the virtues by which the citizens of the entire Slovenian community know him.
He became the oldest known living man in Slovenia, following the death of 107-year-old Mihael Jersic in 2020.
Pogacnik died in Domzale, Slovenia on 21 July 2022 at the age of 105 years, 359 days.
