Jozsef Kasalyak [Hungarian: Kasalyák József] (19 May 1913 – 29 February 2020) was a Hungarian centenarian who was the oldest known living man in Hungary at the time of his death.

Biography[]

Jozsef Kasalyak was born in in Vajdacska, Austria-Hungary (present-day Hungary) on 19 May 1913. He became an orphan as a child. Therefore, he had to work hard from an early age. He worked as a stable boy in numerous manors.

Jozsef married at the age of 20 and had 10 children (he outlived four of them). He owned a land where he would work even as a centenarian, although he officially retired in 1973. At the age of 101, he would still sell his products at a market in Satoraljaujhely. At the age of 106, he lived alone, but a granddaughter of his took care of him. The exact number of his descendants was unknown; he had more than 20 grandchildren, dozens of great-grandchildren and more than 10 great-great-grandchildren.

He became the oldest known living man in Hungary, following the death of 106-year-old Elemer Spiegler on 6 March 2019.

Jozsef Kasalyak died in in Vajdácska, Hungary on 29 February 2020 at the age of 106 years, 286 days.
