Judith Mends (née Ollivierre) (born 23 June 1916) is a Grenadian-born American centenarian who is currently the oldest known Grenadian-born person ever.

Biography[]

Judith Mends was born as Judith Ollivierre in Petite Martinique, Carriacou and Petite Martinique, Grenada, on 23 June 1916, to Catherine Ollivierre, as one of eight siblings.

In her youth, she moved to Carriacou, where she became a business owner of a general store. She was an active member of the community of Grenada, Carriacou, and Petite Martinique. In Carriacou, she taught piano lessons, organized cultural events, initiated the construction of a building, and was a loyal supporter of her nextdoor neighbour, former Prime Minister Herbert Blaize and the Hillsborough Roman Catholic Church there.

On her 100th birthday in 2016, she moved to the United States to live with her family. Despite her advanced age, she still mentally active, being able to memorize people's phone numbers without a assistance and uses a walker. She is still actively participating in her church in Carriacou, asking for contributions to help the church and the community. Her sister, Christina Roberts, died on 20 September 2024 in Tanteen Terrace, Saint George, Grenada at age 101.

On 15 August 2020, following the death of 107-year-old Julien Bridgeman of the United Kingdom, she became the oldest known living Grenadian-born person.

On 5 December 2024, at the age of 108 years, 165 days, she surpassed the final age of Elaine Pivotte (1906–2014) of 108 years, 164 days, becoming the oldest known Grenadian-born person ever.

Judith Mends currently lives in East Flatbush, Brooklyn, New York City, New York, USA, at the age of 109 years, 231 days.
