Maria Francisca "Julia" Simao [Portuguese: "Júlia" Simão] (9 January 1901 – 8 October 2017) was a Brazilian supercentenarian whose age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG). She was the oldest documented person ever from Brazil, until her age was surpassed by Francisca Celsa dos Santos on 21 July 2021.
Biography[]
Francisca Simao was born in Cachoeiro de Itapemirim, Espirito Santo, Brazil on 9 January 1901. She was the daughter of a couple of slaves, Manuel Francisco and Silvina Bento.
In 2013, it was reported that Simao lived for more than 20 years in Afonso Claudio [Portuguese: Cláudio], Espirito Santo, Brazil.
On 29 July 2023, the Gerontology Research Group announced on the World Supercentenarian Forum that Simao had been given the pending status. Her age was fully validated on 18 April 2024.
Francisca Simao died in Afonso Claudio, Espirito Santo, Brazil on 8 October 2017, at the age of 116 years, 272 days. At the time of her death, she was the oldest known living person in Brazil, and the second-oldest living person in the world, after Nabi Tajima.
