Juliana Alejandro (née Espinoza; 19 June 1898 – 27 February 2010) was a Mexican-American supercentenarian whose age was validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG) in 2021. At the time of her death, she was one of the oldest known people in Texas, USA.

Biography[]

Juliana Alejandro was born in Raices, Nuevo Leon, Mexico on 19 June 1898. Her parents were Jorge Espinoza and Maria de Jesus (née Garcia) Espinoza. Her father was recruited by Pancho Villa's Rebel Army to fight alongside the leader and was never to return, leading the family to believe he had died valiantly in battle.

She moved to the Rio Grande Valley in 1954, with her husband, Esteban Alejandro (5 Apr 1897-July 1977), whom she was married to for 64 years. Together they raised their nine children until his death in 1977. Her children were: Jose Alejandro (26 November 1916 – 12 January 2019), Teresa Reyes [1](15 October 1922 - 6 February 2021), Gregoria Mendoza [2](12 March 1925 - 24 August 2018), Santos Alejandro (b. 11 January 1927), Maria Guadalupe Villarreal[3] (12 December 1929 - 26 December 2021), Teresa Miranda [4](15 October 1934 - 13 Jul 2020), Maria De Jesus Mendoza, Juan Alejandro, and Julia Medrano

Juliana Alejandro died in McAllen, Texas, USA on 27 February 2010[5] at the age of 111 years, 253 days. She was survived by two sons Jose Alejandro, and Santos Alejandro; four daughters Teresa Reyes, Gregoria Mendoza, Teresa Miranda, and Maria Guadalupe Villarreal; 52 grandchildren, 147 great-grandchildren, 176 great-great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-great-grandchildren.
