Biography

Mrs. Garbacz was born in the village of Wólka Zychowa. At the time of her birth, this land was part of the Russian Empire. Julianna Garbacz had run a farm in Wólka Zychowa together with her husband until aged 63. After her husband's death, she moved to Końskie to live with her daughter. Reportedly she was an active woman until aged 100. She used to walk long distance to a local church every day. Her diet included dairy products, cooked meat and rice. In 2008, she was recognized as the oldest living resident of Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship.

On 22 June 2010, Julianna Garbacz turned 110 years of age, and, along with Marianna Smolarczyk , she remains one of only two supercentenarians in the history of Swietokrzyskie Voivodeship. From her 110th birthday until her passing, for the first time in Poland there were simultaneously living two supercentenarians.

Julianna Garbacz died on 18 July 2010, being one of the last two surviving people in Poland, born in the 19th century. She lived in Końskie with her family. She was the second oldest living person in Poland behind Wanda Wierzchleyska.
