Kallistheni Meleonitou [Greek: Καλλισθένη Μελεωνίτου] (4 January 1914 – 12 November 2023) was an Egyptian-born Greek centenarian who was the oldest known living person in Greece at the time of her death.

Biography[]

Kallistheni Meleonitou was born Alexandria, Egypt 4 January 1914. He is the first child of two immigrants, Stefanos Tamvakis from Limnos and Aikaterinis Pittaridou from Cyprus, who later had three children, Pavlos, Penelope and Theodoros.

In 1945 she married Efthimios Meleonitis, a cotton merchant who also lived in Alexandria, and together they had two children, son Panagiotis and daughter Katia.

In 1978, after the loss of her husband, she herself made the decision to move permanently to Athens.

Falling down the stairs in 2010 changed her life. She was bedridden after that, despite this, her good internal health kept her alive for another 13 years.

She became the oldest known living person in Greece, following the death of 111-year-old Ioanna Proiou-Dimitriadou on 5 April 2023.

Kallistheni Meleonitou died in Nea Makri, municipality of Marathon, Attica, Greece on 12 November 2023 at the age of 109 years, 312 days. Following her death, then 108-year-old Magdalini Pavlidou became the oldest known living person in Greece.
