Kane Kagaya [Japanese: 加賀谷カネ] (18 February 1896 – 12 October 2007) was a Japanese supercentenarian whose age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).
Biography[]
Kagaya was born in Hamanaka, Hokkaido Prefecture, Japan, on 18 February 1896. She got married at the age of 18 and had 10 children with her husband. She worked at a fish processing plant after her husband died in 1955.
On 6 June 2005, following the death of 109-year-old Tei Kobayashi of Sapporo, Kagaya became the oldest living person in Hokkaido Prefecture. The secret of her longevity was to "eat anything you like or dislike." At the age of 109, she was able to do needlework every day. Her age was verified by Japan's MHLW, Ken Matsuoka and Robert Young, and validated by the GRG on 29 October 2006. At the age of 110, she would spent most of her time in bed, but still enjoyed watching television.
Kagaya died of natural causes in the Choseien Nursing Home (Japanese: 長生園) in Kushiro, Hokkaido Prefecture, Japan, on 12 October 2007, at the age of 111 years, 236 days.
