Katherine Wowchuk (18 August 1901 – 8 January 2013) was an Ukrainian-born Canadian supercentenarian whose age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).
Biography[]
Katherine Wowchuk was born in Austria-Hungary (now Ukraine) on 18 August 1901. In 1914, she emigrated to Canada with her parents and older sister and settled in Arborg, Manitoba before moving to nearby Fisher Branch. In 1917, aged 16, she married Joseph Wowchuk and gave birth to four children. She lived on her own until June 1999, aged 98, when she moved to Fisher Personal Care Home.
Katherine Wowchuk died in Fisher Branch, Manitoba, Canada on 8 January 2013 at the age of 111 years, 143 days. At the time of her death, she was the fourth-oldest known living person in Canda behind Merle Barwis, Flora Thibodeau, and Gloriam Bellerive-Hebert.
