Kikuyo Honma [Japanese: 本間キクヨ] (1 November 1910 – 12 September 2023) was a Japanese supercentenarian whose age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).

Biography[]

Kikuyo Honma was born in Nunobe Village, Niigata Prefecture, Japan on 1 November 1910. She was the third of six siblings. She married a charcoal burner and ascended the mountain daily to assist her husband with his charcoal production, all while tending to crops in the fields. Her husband lost his life in World War II in 1945, and from the age of 34, Homma found herself solely responsible for raising their four young children.

Following the death of 112-year-old Chitetsu Watanabe on 23 February 2020, she became the oldest known living person in Niigata Prefecture.

In November 2020, she celebrated her 110th birthday and became a supercentenarian.

Her age was verified by Japan's MHLW and Yumi Yamamoto, and validated by the GRG on 29 March 2023.

Kikuyo Honma died from natural causes in Murakami City, Niigata Prefecture, Japan on 12 September 2023 at the age of 112 years, 315 days.
