Biography[]
Kogee July claimed to have been born as Kogee Richards in McIntosh County, Oklahoma (then an Indian Territory), USA on 27 August 1858, where she spent the majority of her life. She was a member of the Deep Fork Hillabee Church.
Kogee July died at the W. W. Hastings Indian Hospital in Tahlequah, Cherokee County, Oklahoma, USA on 2 November 1974, at the claimed age of 116 years, 67 days. Her funeral was held four days later, on 6 November 1974. At the time of her death, she had one son (Wiley), two daughters (Nancy Cricklin and Sue Harper), one brother (Ledkey Richards), one sister (Lennie Lowe), 24 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
Age Issues[]
The 1940 United States Census suggests that Kogee July may have been born in 1872, potentially making her 14 years younger than the age claimed.[1]
