Koyo Hirai [Japanese: 平井コヨ] (10 March 1909 – 8 October 2021) was a Japanese supercentenarian whose age is currently unvalidated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).

Biography[]

Koyo Hirai was born in Japan on 10 March 1909. Her family moved to Sakhalin, Russia when she was age nine, so she lived with her great-grandmother in Japan. She worked as a housekeeper when she was young. She got married at the age of 19 and had eight children.

She became a supercentenarian on 10 March 2019. She lived with her family at her home until August 2021, when moved to a nursing home.

As of September 2021, she had 18 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren. At the time, her eldest son was age 92 and her fourth daughter was age 68.

Hirai died in Sapporo, Hokkaido Prefecture, Japan on 8 October 2021 at the age of 112 years, 212 days. Her age was verified by Japan’s MHLW, Yumi Yamamoto and Yu Li, and validated by LongeviQuest on 13 March 2023.
