Laura Cecelia Foote (née Troeger; 16 June 1885 – 2 February 1998) was an American supercentenarian. Her age was (posthumously) validated by the Gerontology Research Group on 9 February 2019.
Biography[]
Laura Foote was born as Laura Cecelia Troeger in Corvallis, Oregon, USA on 16 June 1885. She moved to Portland in 1890. She married a man with the surname Foote. She had one son George who died in 1988. Before attending St. Vincent's nursing school from 1905 to 1909, Mrs. Foote spent two years training to become a sister. Mrs. Foote graduated second in her class at St. Vincent's and spent 57 years working for four doctors, out of simple joy for the work she did. She was seen praying the rosary on her walks to work. She lived independently and attended St. Patrick's Church in Northwest Portland until 1983, when she moved to Mount St. Joseph's.
Laura Foote died in Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon on 2 February 1998 at the age of 112 years, 231 days. She was survived by seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 26 great-great-grandchildren.
