Laurent Noel [French: Noël] (19 March 1920 – 2 July 2022) was a Canadian centenarian and prelate of the Roman Catholic Church who was the oldest living Catholic bishop at the time of his death. He served as bishop of Diocese of Trois-Rivieres from 1975 to 1996.

Biography[]

Noel was born in Saint-Just-de-Bretenieres, Quebec, Canada on 19 March 1920.

Noel was ordained a priest on 16 June 1944 for the Diocese of Sainte-Anne-de-la-Pocatiere. He was appointed Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Quebec on 25 June 1963, as well as titular bishop of Agathopolis, and was consecrated on 29 August 1963.

Noel was the Apostolic Administrator Diocese of Hauterive from 1974 to 1975. He was appointed to the Diocese of Trois-Rivieres on 8 November 1975, where he served until his retirement on 21 November 1996.

Upon the death of Damian Iguacen Borau on 24 November 2020, Noel became the oldest living Catholic bishop. Upon the death of Remi De Roo on 1 February 2022, he became the last surviving Canadian bishop to participate in the Second Vatican Council.

Noel died in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada on 2 July 2022 at the age of 102 years, 105 days.
