Lauro Bilaos (born 17 August 1916) is a Filipino centenarian who is currently the oldest known living man in the Philippines.
Biography[]
Lauro Bilaos was born in Malilipot, Albay Province, Philippines, on 17 August 1916, to Julian Bilaos and Felicisima Bigcas, being one of the twelve children of Julian Bilaos. His father and mother reportedly lived to be over 100 years old.
Bilaos worked as a carpenter for a bus construction company for several years. He courted his wife for 3 years before marrying eachother at the age of 25. He faithfully and patiently waited for her.
At the age of 90, he was still capable of fixing roofs. One time, he fell from several feet to the ground and hurt his right knee, he refutes going to the doctor lest an amputation is required. At the age of 104, he was still constructing furniture.
Bilaos said that the secret to his longevity is his faith in God; he never forgets to pray and give thanks to God before he sleeps. He also eats well and occasionally drinks, other than that he has no other vices. He always keeps active. His daily habits includes watching boxing matches on television and strolling on mornings.
At the age of 105, he won second place in a writing contest for the celebration of World Day of Grandparents and Elderly that was hosted by DGZB-AM radio station.
At the age of 108, he voted for the election of local officials. At the age of 109, he was awarded by COMELEC Albay a commemorative plaque for voting despite his extreme age and to encourage fellows to participate in the voting.
On 15 July 2025, following the death of 111-year-old Pablo Amiling, he became the oldest known living man in the Philippines.
On 12 October 2025, he was visited by his local district representative, congresswoman Krisel Lagman to congratulate his longevity.
Lauro Bilaos currently lives in San Jose, Malilipot, Albay Province, Philippines, at the age of 109 years, 111 days, with 9 children and more than 60 great-great-grandchildren and great-great-great-grandchildren.
