Leonid Lazarevich Skvortsov [Russian: Леонид Лазаревич Скворцов] (born 19 March 1916) is a Russian-Belarusian centenarian who is currently the oldest known living man and World War II veteran in Belarus.

Biography[]

Early Life and World War II Service[]

Leonid Lazarevich Skvortsov was born in Vologda Oblast, Russian Empire (present-day Russia) on 19 March 1916.

In 1939, he was drafted into the army. He served in the city of Lomza, in Bialystok region (then part of the USSR). He did not have time to mobilize from the army – World War II began. During the war, he had a chance to serve in the 10th Army, fight the enemy in the Belarusian forests in the Nalibokskaya Pushcha. He also fought in East Prussia, and for the Baltic Front.

Later Life (Post-World War II)[]

From there, he was demobilized during the summer of 1946. For showing courage and heroism, he has a number of awards, which he proudly wears on his festive costume during special occasions. He connected his post-war life with Novogrudok, which became his second homeland. There, he created a family, and worked as the head of the supply department at a garment factory.

On several of his birthdays throughout his centenarian years, he has been honored by government and military officials for his longevity, as well as for his service during World War II. He told stories of how there were obstacles throughout his life such as World War II, but was able to overcome them. He also expressed his will to remain in good health and to live for many more years.

Leonid Lazarevich Skvortsov currently lives in Novogrudok, Grodno Region, Belarus at the age of 108 years, 308 days.
