Leta Bertha Nolen (née Emison; 17 February 1905 – 28 March 2017) was a validated American supercentenarian who, at the time of her death, was the oldest known living person in the state of Arkansas.

Early life[]

Leta Bertha Emison was born in Arkansas, United States on 17 February 1905 to William Franklin Emison (1862–1936) and Larah Ann Wright (1865–1940). She married James Fredrick Nolen on 10 June 1939. They never had children.

Later life[]

Leta belonged to First United Methodist Church, North Little Rock. Later, many members of the church and her Sunday School Class visited her at the nursing home and especially on her birthday parties. Her husband died in 1970. Leta loved going to the horse races in Hot Springs. Her great nephew, Larry Emison, took her several times when she was in her 90s and even when she was age 100. Until her late-90s, Leta was an avid bridge player, beating out many much younger opponents. She drove her Ford Maverick car until she was age 100 but gave up driving only because she had a fender-bender. For a long time she lived in the house she and her late husband built in the 1940s. At the age of 103, it was necessary that she move to Robinson Nursing & Rehab.

Nolen lived in North Little Rock, Arkansas, United States. She died on 28 March 2017 at the age of 112 years, 39 days.
