Lieselotte Hemmerling ( 7 December 1913 - 17 February 2024) was a German supercentenarian whose age was validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG) in 2024. She was the second oldest living person in Hesse, after Maria Daub

Biography[]

Anna Seidel was born in Bettenhausen, Hesse, Germany on 7 December 1913 as Lieselotte Gundlach. Her parents ran a tailor's shop, she trained as a bookseller. She married Martin Dietrich and after his death in wold war II, she married Johannes Hemmerling with whom she had 5 children. Together with her husband, she founded the congregation of St. James' Church in Eichwald.

She and her husband moved into a nursing home in 2000 and she still resides there today. After the death of her very sick husband, she became the contact person and advocate for the orther residents, helping the newcomers to settle in.


She celebreated her 110th birthday in 2023 and became a supercentenarian. At the time she had 5 children, 6 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She said that she viewed her birthday as a gift. She survived Covid shortly before her birthday.


Lieselotte Hemmerling died in Kassel, Hesse, Germany at the age of 110 years, 72 days.
