Leya (Lillian) Norris (née Palace; 3 October 1907 (claimed 15 September) – 18 February 2019) was a Lithuanian-American supercentenarian whose age was validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG) in 2021.
Biography
Lillian Norris was born in Kedainiai, Kaunas County, Russian Empire (present-day Lithuania) on 3 October 1907 (claimed 15 September 1907). She married Samuel Norris. They had two children: Donald and Paula. Norris worked during the Depression as a sales person at Fair Department Store in Chicago, and she also worked as an accountant. Lillian continued to work there after many employees were fired, and she learned to become a lifelong saver.
Lillian and her husband were married for more than 60 years before he died at the age of 85. Norris also had six grandchildren (one now deceased) and 15 great-grandchildren. Her oldest great-granddaughter was 26 in September 2017.
Norris celebrated her 110th birthday in October 2017. Her sister Naomi Miller died in November 2017 at the age of 103.
She may have been became the oldest known living Lithuanian-American person on 1 March 2018, following the death of 112-year-old Mary Jorden.[citation needed]
Norris died in Chicago, Illinois on 18 February 2019 at the age of 111 years, 138 days (claimed 111 years, 156 days).
