Lizzie Gertrude Wood (nee Wyant; 20 February 1905 – 3 June 2017) was a validated American supercentenarian.

Lizzie Gertrude Wyant was born in Albemarle, Virginia on 20 February 1905, the fourth of 10 children born to Hiram Chapman Wyant and his wife, Cornelia Frances James Wyant. They lived in the little community of Sugar Hollow, located on the eastern slope of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Albemarle County. Nine children lived to adulthood, and one died. As a young girl, Lizzie would turn the handle of his forge while her father fit shoes on the animals. Lizzie Wood and her siblings walked the two miles to the school in Sugar Hollow.

As a young girl, Wood was pretty and popular, dating a half-dozen young men before settling on her future husband, Rubin Lester Wood. The couple began courting and married on 29 November 1923, when Lizzie was just 17 and Rubin 19. They took a weeklong trip to visit relatives. After a brief stay with Lizzie’s parents, the newlyweds moved to Waynesboro. Their children started coming 10 months after marriage, with Wallace (born 1924), Lottie (born 1926), Thelma (born 1929), Gracie (born 1931), Hiram (born 1933), Curtis (born 1936), Betty (born 1939), Boyd (born 1941), and Maynard (born 1946). Lizzie worked alongside her husband doing chores typical of men in that time. Her husband, Rubin died in 1967, and their youngest son, Maynard, bought his parents’ home, where he and his mother continue to live.

Lizzie Wood died in Fishersville, Virginia, on 3 June 2017 at the age of 112 years, 103 days.
