Lois Marie Leyda (née Soare; 19 July 1903 – 17 February 2014) was a Canadian-American supercentenarian whose age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).

Biography[]

Lois Leyda was born in Manitoba, Canada on 19 July 1903. Her parents were Albert William Littleton Soare and Margaret Elizabeth (née Fyfe) Soare.

She grew up in Saskatchewan, Canada and emigrated to United States in 1933. She began working under President Dwight D. Eisenhower’s administration. She then took on the role as an active presidential campaigner serving as an aide to President Reagan, President Ford and later, President Bush, Sr.

She married Harold Junior Leyda in 1950. The couple not had children. She was widowed in 1955. She moved into Sunrise Assisted Living in Washington D.C. in 2007.

There was also a history of longevity in her family: her mother lived to be 98, her sister Merle Stead lived to be 104 and her brother Jack Soare lived to be 94/95.

In July 2013, she celebrated her 110th birthday and became a supercentenarian.

Lois Leyda died in California, USA on 17 February 2014 at the age of 110 years, 213 days.

Her age was verified by Anson Davis, Waclaw Jan Kroczek, and Oliver Trim, and (posthumously) validated by the GRG on 28 February 2016.
