Lorenzo Achar Valenzuela (10 August 1910 – 5 September 2020) was a Paraguayan supercentenarian whose age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG) in 2023. He was the oldest living man in Paraguay and one of oldest living veterans of Chaco War at time of his death.

Biography[]

Lorenzo Achar Valenzuela was born in Horqueta, Concepcion Department, Paraguay on 10 August 1910.

At the age of 17, in the year 1927, he presented himself to comply with the compulsory military service (SMO) in the then 5th Cavalry Division Acá Verá, current Infantry Regiment No. 10, headquarters in Concepción. After three years of leaving the hospital, he again showed up to leave for Chaco with the first contingent that fought in Nanawa.

After the Chaco War, he dedicated himself to various tasks, until he decided to work as a blacksmith.

His wife Agustina Gomez died around 2009. He had 18 children, 11 with his wife and 7 with other women.

He became the oldest known living man in Paraguay upon the death of 109-year-old Ladislao Cabral (1910–2019) on 18 July 2019.[citation needed]

In his 109th birthday, he had many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

In August 2020, he celebrated his 110th birthday.

Lorenzo Achar Valenzuela died in Yby Yau, Concepcion Department, Paraguay on 5 September 2020 at the age of 110 years, 26 days.
