Lorenzo Berzero (2 March 1908 – 2 August 2018) was an Italian supercentenarian whose age is validated by the European Supercentenarian Organisation (ESO) and recognized by LongeviQuest (LQ). He was the oldest living man in Italy and the oldest living person in the region of Piedmont, after the death of 109-year-old Maria Vittoria Paracchini, on 18 November 2017 until his own death. His age was validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG) on 11 October 2021.
Biography
Berzero was born in San Germano Vercellese, Piedmont, Italy. In 1950, he was involved in a car accident in Quinto Vercellese. His vehicle collided with a truck and he was miraculously saved when he was almost at the point of death.
Berzero moved to Vercelli, Piedmont, in 1955, where he was hired in a cooperative for which he worked until he was 65 years old.
After the death of his wife, he moved to Novara, Piedmont, settling with his son Giuseppe, who died in 2016, in a nursing home. He became the oldest living man in Italy after the death of 110-year-old Andrea Lattari on 29 May 2018.
Berzero’s age was verified by Paolo Scarabaggio and validated by the ESO on 3 August 2021. Berzero died in Novara, Piedmont, Italy on 2 August 2018 at the age of 110 years, 153 days.
