Louisa Chailloux (née Van Daal; 30 September 1916 – 11 April 2025) was a Surinamese-French Guianese centenarian who was the oldest known living person in French Guiana at the time of her death.

Biography[]

Louisa Chailloux was born in Coroni, Dutch Guiana (now Suriname) on 30 September 1916. She came in French Guiana as a teenager. She worked as a seller in Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni, French Guiana. She had 10 children.

On her 104th birthday in 2020, Chailloux was visited by three of her grandchildren. They organized a videoconference with some of her family members, living in French Guiana, Suriname, Netherlands, Italy and in the USA. At the time, she was the oldest living person in the nursing home Edmard Lama in Cayenne.

In December 2021, like the other residents of the nursing home, Chailloux was visited by Gabriel Serville, the President of the French Guianese Assembly. Following the death of 109-year-old Marie-Louise Rochambeau on 28 June 2023, she became the oldest known living woman in French Guiana. Following the death of 107-year-old Jeffrey Joseph on 6 March 2024, she became the oldest known living person in French Guiana.

Louisa Chailloux died in Remire-Montjoly, French Guiana on 11 April 2025 at the age of 108 years, 193 days.
