Biography
Louisiana Hines was born in Luverne, Crenshaw County, Alabama, USA, on 13 April 1899 to Ben and Callie (née Banks) Summerlin. She married Arthur Hines on 20 January 1918 in Crenshaw County, Alabama. He died in July 1964.
Hines was, at the time of her death aged 113 years, 294 days, believed to be the oldest living African-American, and second-oldest living person in the United States (behind Elsie Thompson). However, the verification of Gertrude Weaver (1898–2015) meant that she was never the oldest living African-American. She also claimed to have been born in 1898, but according to earlier records, she was born in 1899, which is her validated birth year.
Louisiana Hines died in Detroit, Michigan, USA, on 1 February 2013 at the age of 113 years and 294 days.
