Early Life[]

When she was a child, Lu read poetry. She read the Four Books and Five Classics. She knew by heart some citations of the Classic of Poetry, Water Margin and Romance of the Three Kingdoms.

With the help of Tang Wenzhi, Lu got engaged with Kang Shiqing [Chinese: 康时清] (1890–1988), a student in Shanghai Nanyang Middle School. While Kang was sent studying to the University of Birmingham by the Qing government, she was taken by her father in Shanghai. A teacher learnt her handwriting and English.

After Lu's fiancé returned to China in 1915 (as he obtained his diploma), they married in Shanghai. They were wearing a jacket and white gauze, and it was a modern wedding.

Later Life[]

One day, Lu suffered vasculitis, and had wounds on the leg and on the heel. She refused to be amputated, and after one year of wound cleansing, her injuries closed up.

In October 2001, Lu was reported as the third-oldest living person in Shanghai, after Sha Yunrui and Zhou Qiaoyun. Following the death of 109-year-old Zhou Qiaoyun on 11 October 2002[1], she became the oldest living person in Shanghai.
