Lucia Chacon Hechavarria [Spanish: Lucía Chacón Hechavarría] (13 December 1911 – 22 July 2024) was a Cuban supercentenarian whose age was validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG) in 2024. At the time of her death, she was the oldest known living person in Cuba.

Biography[]

Lucia Chacon Hechavarria was born on 13 December 1911 in El Grillo area, a demarcation located between Sabanilla and Los Lazos, the former Mayari Arriba region, now Segundo Frente. Her parents were Julio Chacon Macias and Concepcion Hechavarria.

She married Eduardo Diaz, and had 10 children (six daughters, and four sons).

She became the oldest known living person in Cuba following the death of 111-year-old Pedro Batista Layana on 7 March 2021.

In December 2021, she celebrated her 110th birthday and became a supercentenarian. At the age of 112, she had 42 grandchildren, 73 great-grandchildren, and 26 great-great-grandchildren.

Lucia Chacon Hechavarria died in Mayari Arriba, Segundo Frente, Santiago de Cuba, Cuba at the age of 112 years, 222 days.
