Lucille "Lulu" Winkelman (née Crawford; 3 April 1913 – 9 February 2025) was an American supercentenarian whose age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).

Biography[]

Lucille (AKA Betty) Winkelman was born on 3 April 1913 on a farm in Scotland County, Missouri, USA, the second oldest of six children born to Elbert Hamilton and Nora Alice (née Smith) Crawford. At the age of 15, she moved to Chicago, Illinois, USA to live with an aunt. She got a job with Illinois Bell (known today as AT&T) in 1929 at the age of 16. She worked there for 39 years until retiring in 1968.

She married Lawrence (Larry) Winkelman in Cook County, Illinois, USA on 23 August 1934. They had no children, instead choosing to travel and experience different cultures. Her husband died in September 1990 after 54 years of marriage.

Lucille Winkelman celebrated her 110th birthday in April 2023 and became a supercentenarian.

Two of her siblings lived into their 90's: her sister, Edith, died in 2016 at the age of 96 and her brother, Sam, died in 2015 at the age of 99.

Lucille Winkelman died in a Sun City community in Huntley, Illinois, USA on 9 February 2025 at the age of 111 years, 312 days. She was one of the oldest residents of the U.S. state of Illinois at the time of her death.
