Biography
Luke Blackwell was allegedly born on 5 May 1876 in Clarendon County, South Carolina, to Ned and Leddie Blackwell. He never learned to read or write and worked as a farmer all his life. He was a member of Goodwill Freewill Baptist Church for more than 90 years and served as a deacon for 75 years. He died on 10 June 1993 in a hospital in Clarendon County at the claimed age of 117 years, 36 days.
Age Issue
If Blackwell's age were verified, he would be the oldest verified man of all time, a record currently held by Jiroemon Kimura of Japan. However, his family say they have no documents to prove his age. According to his likely 1900 US Census entry he was born in September 1889 which would make him only 103 years old.
