Magdalena Skorvankova [Slovak: Magdaléna Škorvánková] (née Kráľová) (20 January 1898 – 7 October 2003) was a Slovakian centenarian who was the oldest known living person in Slovakia at the time of her death.

Biography[]

Magdaléna Škorvánková was born as Magdaléna Kráľová in Divina, Žilina Region, Austria-Hungary (now Slovakia), on 20 January 1898. Her father, Ján Kráľ, lived to be 60 years old, and her mother, Zuzana Kráľová, who gave birth to Magdaléna as her third and last child, died at the age of 70. The house where she was born burned down, so later in 1919 they built a new one on the same spot. At the age of 21, she married Ján Škorvánek. Life was difficult at that time, and her husband experienced all kinds of things. He worked on a farm in Argentina for 11 years, fought in Italy and Russia, and spoke six foreign languages. Her husband died at the age of 75. They had three children together. Magdaléna was never employed, but she worked hard in the fields. Her life was not easy either. Barefoot, she carried 20 kilograms of flour in a sack between her shoulders from Bytča to Divina, and when she needed six-packs, she walked to Žilina with cottage cheese and butter to the market. She carried salt, sugar, and everything else she didn't have at home. At the age of 98, she was raking hay in the fields, and at the age of over 90, she was seen carrying backpacks of grass from the field.

On 13 June 2002, following the death of 108-year-old Anna Michulková, she became the oldest known living person in Slovakia.

Magdaléna Škorvánková died in Divina, Žilina Region, Slovakia, on 7 October 2003, at the age of 105 years, 260 days. Following her death, then 105-year-old Mária Holoubková became the oldest known living person in Slovakia.
