Major Barnes (4 July 1813? – 3 February 1931) was an American longevity claimant. According to his obituary, Barnes claimed that he was born a slave on a plantation in Georgia, USA on July 4 1813. He took his name from that of his master whom he followed through the civil war. For many years Barnes considered himself as a Veteran of the conflict between the north and south. He went to war in a uniform. When he tried to collect a pension the government had no record of his service. Barnes died on February 3 1931 in Stamford, Connecticut, USA at the claimed age of 117 years, 214 days, and was buried at Woodland, Cemetery in Stamford, Connecticut.
