Mamie Tei (born 14 November 1913) is an American-born Italian supercentenarian whose age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG) and LongeviQuest (LQ).
Biography[]
Mamie Tei was born in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, USA on 14 November 1913, and registered in the American registry with the surname Tay. According to the Italian registry, she was born on 14 November 1914, and registered with the surname Tei.
Her parents were Italian immigrants who had moved to the USA for work reasons (following a musician brother of her mother), where the first three children were born between New York and Philadelphia: Roberto, Mamie and Enrico, while the fourth Gloria, was born in Italy.
Later, in 1926, the Tei family returned to Italy, settling in Montiano (in Tuscany). Here she had to complete her studies, despite having already been educated in the USA.
Later she met a man, Dante Conti, an agronomist, with whom she married and had two children, Giuliano in 1941 and Marcello in 1948.
During the years of the Second World War Mamie, very generously, fed many people in the area by baking bread at night to distribute during the day, and also hosted two families of Jews who were fleeing. Mamie's father also worked as an interpreter for the Americans.
In the 1960s Mamie and her family settled in Prato, Tuscany, Italy where she still resides today at the age of 112 years, 23 days. As of 31 March 2025, with the death of Cristina Paloscia, she is the oldest known living person in Tuscany.
