Marcelina Antunes de Oliveira (25 March 1912 – 22 June 2022) was a Brazilian supercentenarian whose age is currently unvalidated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).

Biography[]

Early Life[]

Marcelina Antunes de Oliveira was born in Despraiado, Sao Joaquim, Santa Catarina, Brazil on 25 March 1912. She was raised on a farm by her uncle and biological parents. Her biological parents were unknown as they were not able to affirm her origin. She also survived two snake bites.

Antunes de Oliveira was married to Orgel Angelo Padilha. The couple had eight children. However, a couple of their children were taken away by their neighbors in the 1950s, and they were never to be seen ever again.

Later Life and Death[]

Antunes de Oliveira later moved to Sao Paulo, and she would take walks in the city every week. She eventually moved back to Sao Joaquim to be closer to her family. Two of her daughters lived near her home, and they were responsible for getting good food to her.

In March 2022, Antunes de Oliveira celebrated her 110th birthday and became a supercentenarian.

According to one of her daughters, Valdeci, Antunes de Oliveira was becoming weaker by the day, and she required extra care. Antunes de Oliveira was good-natured, but she had difficulties with her hearing, speech, and memory due to her age. She also required her blood pressure to be measured every day. Despite the difficulties that she faced in her everyday life, she was still able to make her fire in her wood stove every day.

Marcelina Antunes de Oliveira died of liver cancer in Sao Joaquim, Santa Catarina, Brazil on 22 June 2022, at the age of 110 years, 89 days.
