Margaret Fitzgerald (née King; 16 September 1896 – 20 October 2009) was a validated Canadian supercentenarian.

Biography

Margaret Fitzgerald was born as Margaret King in New Brunswick, Canada on 16 September 1896. She grew up on a farm in Tankville, New Brunswick, and moved to Moncton where she took a job as a dental office assistant to Dr. Reginald Fitzgerald and later married him. The couple had no children.

Mrs. Fitzgerald and her husband later moved to the French islands of Saint Pierre and Miquelon, where Reginald continued his medical practice, and resided there until Reginald’s death. When he died, Margaret moved back to New Brunswick, where she operated a convenience store.

She celebrated her 110th birthday in 2006 and was validated by the Gerontology Research Group on 15 October 2008.

Following the death of Jennie Fitzgerald on 22 January 2007, she became the oldest living person in Canada.

Margaret Fitzgerald died in New Brunswick, Canada on 20 October 2009 at the age of 113 years 34 days.
