Margaret Hammond (née Shevill; 25 May 1912 – 19 December 2022) was a British supercentenarian whose age has been validated by by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).
Biography[]
Margaret Hammond was born in Wombwell, near Barnsley, South Yorkshire, England on 25 May 1912, the oldest of four children born to Harold and Clara Shevill. She married Noel Leslie Hammond in 1936, and they went on to have four children. One daughter, Maggie, died in 1998 and one son, Bob, died in 2020.
Margaret moved to Wakefield, West Yorkshire, England shortly after her 101st birthday to be nearer to her daughter, Lynda. She died on 19 December 2022 in a care home in Normanton, West Yorkshire at the age of 110 years, 208 days. As of 2022, she has eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. At the time of her death, Margaret was the sixth-oldest known living person in the United Kingdom.
