Margarete Ottmann (23 February 1903 - 17 August 2014) was a German supercentenarian who was at the time of her death at age 111 years and 175 days the oldest living citizen of Bavaria.
Biography
Margarete Ottmann was born in Jernau, Upper Silesia, German Empire (now a district of Baborów, Opole Voivodeship, Poland) on 23 February 1903. She was trained as a master gardener. In 1945 she and her family fled to Neukirchen bei Sulzbach, Bavaria in consequence of the expulsion since 1944. Her husband died in 1960.
On her 103rd birthday Ottmann was reported to keep her mobility by taking at minimum 500 steps a day. She also traced her longevity to renounce to sugar, cigarettes and alcohol. She lived with her family until age 110, becoming physical weak but staying quiet clear-headed. She was interested in actual developments of politics and society.
At the time of her passing on 17 August 2014, Ottmann was the oldest living person in Bavaria and 3rd oldest in Germany behind Frieda Szwillus and Johanna Klink . She was preceded in death by 2 sons, 7 grandchildren and 7 great-granchildren. Her age was verified by the Gerontology Research Group on 30 June 2014.
