Margarete Staack (24 April 1903 – 7 May 2013) was a German supercentenarian who was at the time of her death the sixth-oldest living person of Germany. Her age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).
Biography[]
Staack was born on 24 April 1903 in Leipzig and spent her whole life there. In 1913 she participated on the inauguration party of the Monument to the Battle of the Nations that she visited many times until age 108. Her husband she married on 5 July 1930 died in World War II. The couple had one daughter who died aged 77 to be preceded in death by Staack.
Staack was mentioned in Leipzig’s annual chronic since 2009 when turning 106. In September 2011 she participated by drawing a picture on a foundation supporting children at the beginning of their life. Being 108 her health started declining and weakened her so much that her 109th birthday was celebrated calmly without a high media response. Turning 110 Staack was portrayed by a nationwide publisher in consequence of the question how funny it would be to become 110. She was shown with different comical facial expressions.
On 7 May 2013, two weeks after her 110th birthday Staack died in a nursing home said to be Leipzig's oldest citizen ever. She was survived by two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
