Catharine Margarethe Sauer (née Ploeger [German Plöger]; 18 January 1867 (claimed 1866) – 14 January 1977) was a German centenarian who was the oldest known living woman in Germany at the time of her death.

Biography[]

Margarethe Sauer was born in Germany on 18 January 1867 (claimed 1866). Her parents were Albert Hinrich Diedrich Ploger and Adelheid Margaretha Maria (née Petermann) Ploger and they were born in Wildeshausen. She had eight siblings.

Sauer died in Germany on 14 January 1977 at the age of 109 years, 362 days (claimed 110 years, 362 days), four days before her 110th birthday. At the time of her death, she was believed to be oldest living woman in Germany. After her death, Katharina Braun became oldest living woman in Germany.
