Marguerite Petit (née Poinsot; 3 July 1883 – 21 December 1995) was a French supercentenarian whose age has been validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG). At the time of her death, she was the second-oldest living person in France, after Jeanne Calment. She was also the oldest person ever from the present-day region of Grand Est, until her age was surpassed by Henriette Boeuf.
Biography[]
Petit was born as Marguerite Poinsot in Lemberg in the department of Moselle, which was part of Alsace-Lorraine (and thus the German Empire) at the time of her birth on 3 July 1883.
Her parents were Jean Poinsot (1850–1921) and Barbe Schaeffer (1854–1910). On 4 April 1910, she married Jean Nicolas Petit, a crystal engraver. The couple had three children, including Elisabeth (1912–?). She was widowed in 1955.
Shortly before her 112th birthday in 1995, Petit was hospitalized. At the time, she had one surviving child, four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Petit died in Bitche, Moselle, Grand Est, France, on 21 December 1995 at the age of 112 years, 171 days. Her age was verified by Jean-Marie Robine, and validated by the GRG on 31 May 2002.
