Marguerite (Margaret) Woodfield Pouponneau (née Gill; 15 August 1912 - 25 October 2023) was a Seychellois supercentenarian who was the oldest known living person in Seychelles at the time of her death. Her age was validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG) in 2023.

Biography[]

Marguerite Pouponeau was born as Margaret Woodfield Gill in Anse Royale, Seychelles on 15 August 1912. Her mother died at the age of 98. She had six siblings: four brothers and two sisters (all deceased as of August 2014). She grew up at Anse Royale and later moved to Saint Louis. She worked as a seamstress.

She married Wilby Pouponneau and four children: three daughters and one son. Her oldest daughter Beryl is now deceased, her daughter Daphne Pouponneau lives with her, her son lives in England, and one of her other daughters lives in Italy.

As of August 2020, she had several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She became the oldest known living person in Seychelles, following the death of 112-year-old Nancy Marie on 11 May 2021.

Marguerite Pouponneau died at Seychelles Hospital in Saint Louis, Seychelles on 25 October 2023 at the age of 111 years, 71 days. Following her death, then 107-year-old Noemie Benoit became the oldest known living person in Seychelles.
