Maria Antonia Cuero [Spanish: María] (born 18 October 1901?) is a Colombian longevity claimant. If her claimed age is true, she would be older than Colombia's oldest documented person, Francisca Mangonez Martinez, and the world's oldest validated person since the death of Chiyo Miyako on 22 July 2018. If verified, she would also be the oldest known person to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
Biography[]
Maria Antonia Cuero claims to have been born in a hamlet on the shores of the mouth of the Mayorquin River, Valle del Cauca, Colombia on 18 October 1901. She had 15 siblings. She had eight children.
At the claimed age of 53, she had the last of her daughters, she gave her wrapped in banana leaves to Ana Rosa Moreno de Balanta, the only teacher in Mayorquin. The baby was 2 or 3 months old. Ana Rosa raised the girl, named her Delcy, taught her to read and write. Delcy became a teacher and as an adult she met her biological mother, who lived alone on a ranch. Around 2017, Delcy now retired from teaching, received Maria Antonia at her home in Cali. Some granddaughters help her take care of her when they are not working.
Until when she was the claimed age of 114, she would ride alone in her canoe and go fishing upriver. Around 2017, she was operated on for cataracts and they put hearing aids on her, but she hardly wears them because she is afraid it will rain and get them wet. At the claimed age of 118, she suffers from high blood pressure.
In March 2021, at the claimed age of 119, she got vaccinated against COVID-19. In May 2022, she voted during the first round of the 2022 Colombian presidential election.
Maria Antonia Cuero currently lives in Mayorquin, Buenaventura, Valle del Cauca, Colombia, at the claimed age of 124 years, 21 days. She is currently the oldest living claimant of Colombia. No proof has been shown which supports her claimed age. If her age were true, she would be the last living person born in 1901.
Age Issues[]
Her only document supporting her claim is a late ID card from 2012. Colombian media claimed that they were making errands to the Guinness World Records would accept her case, but after two years, no progress has been made. It is important to note that Cuero shows physical capabilities that are unusual even for centenarians.
