Maria Chappell (née Horton; 11 March 1815 – 4 October 1924) was an American centenarian who, at the time of her death, may have been the oldest known living person in New England, and the second-oldest known living person in the United States and the world, behind Louisa Thiers.
Biography[]
Maria Horton was born in Rehoboth, Massachusetts, USA on 11 March 1815. Her parents were Eliphalet Horton (1763–1825) and Mary Horton (née Case; 1769–unknown). She had at least nine silbings.
She married Ralph Chappell (1823–unknown) in Providence, Rhode Island, USA on 11 October 1847. The couple had one children: Herbert Chappell (born 1850), and Ann West (1856–1945).
Up to a short time before her death, she had been comparatively active. She lived with her daughter Ann West.
Maria Chappell died in Seekonk, Massachusetts, USA on 4 October 1924 at the age of 109 years, 207 days.
