Maria Chappell (née Horton; 11 March 1815 – 4 October 1924) was an American centenarian who was, at the time of her death, the oldest known living person in Massachusetts, and the second-oldest known living person in the United States and the world, behind Louisa Thiers.
Biography
Maria Horton was born in Rehoboth, Massachusetts, USA on 11 March 1815. Her parents were Eliphalet Horton (1763–1825) and Mary Horton (née Case; born 1769). She had at least nine silbings.
She married Ralph Chappell (born 1823) in Providence, Rhode Island, USA on 11 October 1847. The couple had one children: Herbert Chappell (born 1850), and Ann West (1856–1945).
Up to a short time before her death, she had been comparatively active. She lived with her daughter Ann West.
Maria Chappell died in Seekonk, Massachusetts, USA on 4 October 1924 at the age of 109 years, 207 days.
