Biography[]

Early Life[]

Maria Daub was born as Maria Fliegel in Germany on 18 August 1913, the second-oldest of seven siblings. Her mother was unable to take care of her as she had to run her shop, so she was cared for by her aunt, who lived next door to her.

When she was young, Daub had to work a lot at a commercial school, and she barely had any free time. She took singing lessons, and was involved in her church's choir for over six decades. She enjoyed travelling to many countries around the world.

Later Life and Death[]

Daub lived independently in her apartment in Limburg an der Lahn until 2011, when she had to undergo surgery. She was in a coma for two months, though she later managed to survive. She subsequently moved into a nursing home.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Daub was the first resident of her nursing home to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, making her one of the oldest known people to receive the vaccine.

In August 2023, she celebrated her 110th birthday and became a supercentenarian. At the age of 110, she remains in good health and uses a wheelchair. She enjoys having sweets and a glass of wine.

Maria Daub died in Limburg an der Lahn, Hesse, Germany on 20 February 2024 at the age of 110 years, 186 days. At the time of her death, she was the oldest known living person in Hesse.
