Maria Dolores Ferreira (22 July 1902 – 31 July 2013) was a Portuguese supercentenarian whose age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG). At the time of her death, she was the oldest known living person in Portugal.

Biography[]

Maria Dolores Ferreira was born in Sequeade, Barcelos, Portugal on 22 July 1902. She was the daughter of Jose Ferreira da Rocha (October 1864 – 9 March 1951) and Luisa da Silva Gomes (15 May 1872 – 5 May 1960). Her parents married in 1900. She married Josue Aires Lopes on 27 April 1923. Her husband died in 1948. She lived in Encourados, Barcelos, Portugal and was known by the population of the village as "Mariazinha". The couple had 10 children, 5 of them died at an early age.

Dolores Ferreira was lucid until she was 107 years of age. She said the secret to her longevity was to drink 3 coffees a day.

Following the death of 112-year-old Carmelina Augusta Delgado on 19 May 2013, she became the oldest known living person in Portugal.

Maria Dolores Ferreira died in Encourados, Braga District, Portugal on 31 July 2013 at the age of 111 years, 9 days.
