Maria Esperanza Onieva Sanchez (1 September 1889 – 15 February 2002) was a Spanish supercentenarian whose age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).

Biography[]

Onieva Sanchez was born in Priego, Cordoba Province, Andalusia, Spain, on 1 September 1889. She got married at the end of World War I, at the age of 26, but gave birth to her first child at the age of 40. She had 3 daughters. Her oldest daughter was Maria (aged 72 in November 2001). During the Spanish Civil War she moved to another city.

On 15 November 1999, Onieva Sanchez became the oldest living person in Spain, following the death of Antonio Urrea-Hernandez. In November 2001, she had 3 living daughters, 3 granddaughters and 1 grandson.

Esperanza Onieva died in Cabra, Cordoba Province, Andalusia, Spain, on 15 February 2002, at the age of 112 years, 167 days.
