Maria Esther Canessa Lawlor de Lombardini (1 June 1894 – 1 July 2006) was an Uruguayan supercentenarian whose age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).

Biography[]

Maria Esther was born in Montevideo, Uruguay on 1 June 1894. She was a daughter of Cesar S. Canessa and Juana Julia Lawlor MacDougall (1861–1932). Her father was a great lawyer and politician. Cesar Canessa, together with his brother Alberto, held important positions within the government.

She had eight siblings, including Cesar Maria (born 1892) and Ema Maria Carmen (born 1896). She married Agustin Lombardini on 15 April 1935. They had two children, one when Maria was 42 and other at 44.

She had Italian, Irish, Scottish, and Spanish ancestry. In her youth and throughout his life she enjoyed going to the movies, the theater and betting on horses.

When she was widowed, she had to find a job and managed to get a public position. She retired at the age of 80.

On her 111th birthday in 2005, she had two living children, at least one grandchild and three great-grandchildren. At that time, she lived in La Paloma, Montevideo. She was widowed more than 60 years prior to her 111th birthday in 2005. She claimed that there's no secret of longevity and that "everything depends on God".

Maria died in Montevideo, Uruguay on 1 July 2006 at the age of 112 years, 30 days.
