Dr. Maria Gabriella Lerchenthal-Serra Borneto (8 June 1913 – 13 September 2024) was a German-born Italian supercentenarian whose age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG). At the time of her death, she was the oldest living person in the city of Rome and in the Lazio region.
Biography[]
Maria Gabriella Lerchenthal was born in Munich, Bavaria, German Empire (now Germany) on 8 June 1913. In 1931, after completing high school, she emigrated to Italy and graduated from university in Rome.
She worked as a university professor in Rome, and married a man surnamed Serra Borneto. Her son also achieved a doctorate.
On 8 June 2023, she celebrated her 110th birthday, becoming a supercentenarian.
On 17 July 2024, following the death of 111-year-old Anna La Morgia, Lerchenthal became the oldest living person in the city of Rome and in the Lazio region.
Maria Gabriella Lerchenthal died in Rome, Lazio, Italy on 13 September 2024 at the age of 111 years, 97 days. Additionally, she was the second-oldest living German emigrant in the world, behind Ilse Meingast of the United States.
