Maria Garcia (née Blanco Pariente; 29 April 1908 – 15 April 2020) was a Spanish-born American supercentenarian whose age was validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG) in 2021.

Biography[]

Maria Garcia was born Maria Roberta Blanco Pariente in Fiobre in the municipality of Bergondo, Galicia, Spain, on 29 April 1908. She married Gerardo Garcia in Fiorbe in 1926. The couple had two children, Manuel and Marina (both deceased as of 2019). For some time, they lived in San Isidro.

She never went to school, but her husband taught her to read. When her son Manuel was 16, he emigrated to the United States with his father. Shortly after, in 1945, Maria and her daughter Marina moved there too. Firstly they went to Brazil, then to New Orleans, and finally reached New York.

Garcia was always a housewife, and her husband worked in the merchant marine, and later in the Socony oil company. Her husband died in 1993. In the 1990s, she visited Galicia with her son. On 29 April 2019, Garcia celebrated her 111th birthday. At that time, she had four grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.

Garcia died in Fort Lee, New Jersey, United States at the age of 111 years, 352 days. At the time of her death, she lived with her grandson.
