Maria Hoffner [Hungarian: Mária Höffner] (20 June 1905 – 30 July 2016) was a Ukrainian-Hungarian supercentenarian whose age is currently unvalidated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG). She was the oldest living person in Hungary at the time of her death.
Biography[]
Maria Hoffner was born in Austria-Hungary (now Ukraine) on 20 June 1905. Maria Haffner moved from Upper Hungary to Budapest at the age of 24, she emigrated to the United States. in the 1960s. She moved back to Hungary at the age of 100, because she had become homesick. Tilda Haffner, her daughter said us earlier: the secret of her mother's longevity is her strong belief, hard work, and a little bit of whisky every morning.
She became the oldest living person in Hungary, following the death of 110-year-old Rezso Gallai on 25 September 2014.
Maria Hoffner died in Budapest, Hungary on 30 July 2016 at the age of 111 years, 40 days. Following her death, then 109-year-old Margit Dezsone Kovacs became the oldest known living person in Hungary.
