Maria Holoubkova-Urbasiowna [Slovakian: Mária Holoubková - Urbasiówna] (3 April 1898 – 24 May 2004) was a Slovakian centenarian and photographer who was the oldest known living person in Slovakia at the time of her death.
Biography[]
Maria Holoubkova-Urbasiowna was born in the suburbs of Cieszyna, Austria-Hungary, (present-day Poland) on 3 April 1898. She came from Poland to Slovakia after 1918 with her mother and brother.
Since 1919, she collaborated with Cyril Kašpar, a cameraman and director who was interested in filming. Together, not only as business partners, they expanded the company after moving to Trenčín to include a film production plant. It was located on today's Farská Street. In the less than ten years of Tatrafilm's operation, they have shot up to 40 works of various lengths, including short advertising films.
Every year, the progressive cinematography company released at least two films with Czech and Slovak subtitles after censorship. The first, so-called additions, were shown in the Bio Zora cinema in Trenčín as early as 1921.
One of the first films she shot together with Kašpar was a work about Pavlov Országh Hviezdoslav, a few days before the poet's death (he died on 8 November 1921). Other Tatrafilm films were: Mr. President (1928), about T. G. Masaryk in Topoľčianki, From the Tatras to the Danube, Creation of the Jaroňkov brothers, Valašský rok (1925), Kremnická Mint, Tatra Automobile in Kopřivnice, Tapestry School and others. Some titles of Tatrafilm were saved from destruction by the director, well-known film critic Ivan Rumanovský.
Holoubkova-Urbasiowna died in Trencin, Slovakia on 24 May 2004, at the age of 106 years, 51 days.
